Tata Motors' Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand is all set to roll out the Nano, 100,000-rupee price tag super-cheap car for the masses. Vehicle maker Tata Motors said in a recent announcement that, it would launch its Nano on March 23. The company also said that, it would accept bookings from the second week of April.
Ratan Tata’s dream project, the low-cost Nano was first unveiled in January 2008. It was scheduled to go on sale last October, but the launch was delayed because of the problems surrounding the location of the main plant which was later shifted to Gujarat from West Bengal. Car dealers say there is a huge craze for the Nano. One dealer said that, they have already got over 2000-2500 booking.
However, some industry experts say that, Tata Motors is worried about the current economic downturn and associated production constraints that may spoil the success of the world’s cheapest car. Only 50,000 cars will be available in the first year from Tata facilities in Pune and Pantnagar. Tata is waiting for the 250,000-unit capacity in Gujarat to come on-stream to meet public demand for the vehicle.
