Tata Motors on Friday May 16, 2008, launched the latest eco friendly variant of its highly successful car Indica. The new model, Indica V2 Xeta LPG comes with dual fuel engine which basically means the vehicle can run on both petrol and LPG. This in turn, reduces emission levels by 10% ultimately making it one of the most fuel efficient cars in the country today.
According to company sources the LPG Indica is BSIII certified and can easily be upgraded to meet the Euro-IV norms. One can switch on to either mode even while driving. The electronically controlled MPFi engine provides safety performance and emission related advantages. It has been in two variants, in 5 colors priced between Rs.327, 000 (for the GLE version) to Rs.342, 000 (for the GLS version).
Apart from earning revenue of $7.2 billion last year, it also successfully clinched a deal whereby it took over Jaguar and Land Rover brands of Ford Motors. The Tata Motors is a part of the Tata group and is one of the world's largest manufacturers of commercial vehicles. The OICA ranked it as the world's 20th largest automaker based on figures for 2007.
