India's leading auto manufacturing companies, Tata Motors Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd have decided to close down their plants for six days owing to lack of vehicle demand. The ongoing economic slowdown has badly affected all the major auto companies of the world including the Indian ones. According to a spokesperson of Tata motors, the company has decided to temporarily cease the production of its vehicle plant in east India for six days. The company had earlier said that it would shut a commercial vehicle plant in west India for three days.
The sales of Indian vehicle makers have declined considerably. According to reports, Tata Motors' sales dropped by 30 percent in the month of November. On the other hand, country's biggest utility vehicle and tractor maker Mahindra has experienced a fall of 39 percent in the November. The company announced that it will close down most of its automotive plants for six days in this month.
The Indian car makers have been suffering immensely from low demand which forced them to cut cost. According to reports, auto sales have declined drastically after nearly five years of rapid growth. The companies are offering several incentives to woo back the buyers. Meanwhile, the close down of production units of major auto companies is likely to hit the employees badly.
