With a view to expand its business in Africa, Tata Communications has picked up 30 percent stake in Neotel of South Africa. In addition to it, the Indian telecom operator has also acquired the stakes from two other operators, Eskom and Transnet. The South Africa-based company, Neotel is engaged in providing a wide array of services including value-added voice and data services for businesses, wholesale network operators and providers and consumers.
According to a statement released by Tata Communications, the acquisition will make the company the controlling shareholder in Neotel in association with Tata Africa Holdings. Speaking on the new acquisition, Tata Communications managing director and chief executive N. Srinath said that Tata Com will collaborate with Neotel to provide global quality telecom services in South Africa. He informed that the recent acquisition was a part of company's strategic plan of expanding its business in the emerging regions of Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The telecom operator, Tata Communications is a part of India-based Tata group.
