Tamil Nadu State awards for the movies of 2007 and 2008 were announced on Monday.  While Rajnikant grabbed the 2007 award with his spectacular performance in ‘Sivaji - The Boss’, Kamal Haasan was adjudged the best actor for 2008 for his ‘Dasavatharam’. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has been won the award for the best dialogues of ‘Uliyin Osai’.
 
‘Sivaji’ has won the awards for the best movie, best villain (Suman), best comedian (Vivek), best female playback singer (Chinmayee) and best art director (Thotta Tharan).
 
The next one in the race was ‘Mozhi’, which has grabbed four awards - the second best film award of 2007, with Jyothika being adjudged the best actress and Vidyasagar best music director for the same.
 
The award for the third best film for 2007 went to ‘Pallikoodam’, while Thankar Bachchan, who directed the film, was adjudged best director.
 
Sneha won the best actress award of 2008 for her exhilarating performance in ‘Pirivom Sandhippom’. ‘Periyar’ bagged the award for the best movie under special award category for 2007 with Sathyaraj granning the spefial jury award for the role.
 
The best actress award went to Priyamvatha for ‘Mirugam’. Vairamuthu is the best lyricist for 2007 with his mind blowing lyrics in ‘Periyar’ where as Nirav Shah won the best cinematographer award for 2007 for ‘Billa’.
 
For 2008, ‘Dasavatharam’ was adjudged the best movie with Vaali winning the best lyricist award.  Michael Westmore and Kothandapani was adjudged the best make-up artists for the same.
 
Special awards for best actor and best actress for 2008 went to Suriya for ‘Varanam Aayiram’ and Trisha for ‘Abhiyum Naanum’ respectively.
 
The third prize for the best film went to the entertainer ‘Santhosh Subramaniam’ and the special award to "Meiporul".
 
‘Ajantha’ gave Ilayaraja the best music director award whereas Mahathi received the best female singer award for ‘Nenjathai Killathe’. Pelliraja grabbed the best male singer award for ‘Subramaniapuram’.
