The Communist parties will announce whether they will support AIADMK's decision to boycott by-polls in Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
On July 20, the AIADMK and the MDMK decided to boycott the by-elections in five assembly constituencies Aug 18, alleging that the polls would not be held in a free and fair manner.
The state executive committees of the Communist Party of India-Marxist and Communist Party of India that met separately at Tiruchirapalli on Wednesday, could not come to a decision and extended their sessions for a day.
The two parties are in a dilemma whether to toe their Lok Sabha poll ally AIADMK's decision or contest on their own.
The AIADMK's resolution said: "With the Congress government at the centre turning a blind eye to all the activities of the DMK, it is doubtful whether the Election Commission would be able to conduct a free and fair poll. Hence, the AIADMK has decided to boycott the by-elections for the five assembly constituencies scheduled Aug 18."
