The researchers at the University in Fukuoka, Japan have claimed that taking green tea routinely can make the teeth and gums healthy. According to study author Yoshihiro Shimazaki of Kyushu University in Fukuoka, it has always been believed that green tea possesses a host of health benefits. The study further consolidated the health benefits of taking green tea.
The study showed that taking one cup of green tea everyday reduced the indicators of periodontal diseases. There are three kinds of periodontal diseases such as periodontal pocket depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL) of gum tissue, and bleeding on probing (BOP) of the gum tissue. The research found out that routine intake of green tea has considerably reduced the symptoms of the three periodontal diseases.
Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. Periodontal disease may also lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Green tea has been able to reduce the symptoms of periodontal disease mainly because of the presence of antioxidant catechin. US publication Periodontolog came out with the findings of the study.
