Villagers were evacuated from the landslide-prone areas in Taiwan by authorities as the region prepared itself to brave the strong torrential rain and wind to be brought on by Typhoon Jangmi on Sunday, September 28, 2008. Capital Taipei, which usually vibrates will energy, wore a strangely very quiet look with a handful of cars on the streets in this stormy weather.
The footage aired by the CTI TV showed villagers leaving the mesmerizing mountain resort of Lushan in central Taiwan with only the very necessary personal belongings. Two weeks back this area got severely hit by the ferocious Typhoon Sinlaku. The mudslides caused by it destroyed at least three hotels. Also hundreds of fishing boats stood sheltered at ports, whereas all flights were cancelled.
