FFI (Film Federation of India) has send Taare Zameen Par to represent India's entry to the foreign language category for Oscars at the 81st annual Academy awards. Admittedly, the film based on the life of an eight-year-old dyslexic child has been getting rave reviews for its sensitivity and acting by child actor Darsheel Safari. The film, scripted by Amole Gupte and released in 2007, has received critical and Box Office acclaim.

Announcing the decision, filmmaker Suneel Darshan, Head of the FFI jury to select the film said that Taare Zameen Par will represent India's entry into Oscar awards this year. The film has competed with Marathi films Valu and Tingya, Nishikant Kamat's Mumbai Meri Jaan, Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday, Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar, Farhan Akhtar's Rock On!', Subhash Ghai's Black and White and Telugu film Ghanyam to make an entry into Oscars.

Interestingly, the film is Aamir Khan's second outing at the Oscars. Earlier, his first home production Lagaan too had made history in 2001. Then Lagaan had made to the final nomination list of the foreign film category. Later on, his film, Rang De Basanti too had got positive review and was in selection round of the films to be sent to Oscars. However, it lost to Lage Raho Munna Bhai in the competition that year.
