Switzerland, which has been quite apprehensive about India’s nuke program and NSG’s clean waiver to India, may now support it. Recently, a Swiss parliamentarian has been heard saying that his country was most likely to help India in acquiring the badly needed exemption at the NSG meet. Evidently, the next NSG meeting is scheduled for August 21.

Swiss parliamentarian Christoffel Brandil understandingly said that India has a demand for energy and his country does understand it. Brandil is the Speaker of the upper house of the Swiss Parliament, and his is an authoritative voice in Swiss parliament. He viewed that the Indo-US nuclear deal is important for India's energy security.

Earlier, Switzerland's ambassador to India Dominique Dreyer informed that the Swiss government had not yet made up its mind on supporting or not supporting waiver for India. Brandil, head of parliamentary delegation to India, opined nuke deal is good for India and it should be allowed to go through. According to him the Swiss govt will most likely support the waiver for India at the NSG meet.
