According to an official from Tamil Nadu, a 45-year-old man succumbed to swine flu in Chennai at a government hospital.
The victim, who has been identified as Sekar, passed away on Friday at the Government General Hospital in Chennai. According to the Director of Medical Education S. Vinayakam, Sekar had undergone an operation for piles at another government hospital on Aug 12.
The man, whose throat swabs tested positive on August 19, was admitted to the hospital with complaints of breathlessness and bleeding piles.
"Four days later, he developed breathlessness and was shifted to Government General Hospital and tested positive for swine flu," Vinayakam said.
Even though Tamiflu tablets were given to him, Sekar lost his battle to the deadly H1N1 virus on Friday night. It has been confirmed that Sekar came in contact with this lethal flu virus locally since he had not been overseas.
The other two deaths happened one each in Pune and Goa. Four more people have been tested positive for the virus in Assam as about 2,600 patients are undergoing treatment for this lethal infection across the country.
With this, the total number of lives that have been claimed by the deadly H1N1 virus in India has touched 51.
