Suzuki, a Japanese company with its Indian venture Maruti Suzuki is intended to make India a hub for small car manufacturing. S Nakanishi, MD of Maruti Suzuki disclosing company’s aim said that with improved quality and productivity, it’s an opportunity to go one step further, and that according to him is to make India the exclusive base to manufacture small cars to be sold in Europe.
Incidentally, the company will reintroduce A-Star as Alto in Europe which would be the first major model towards this end. Nakanishi showed his happiness toward R&D team of Indian subsidiary which has played substantial role in the design process of the Swift and A-Star. Reportedly, Suzuki would sell totally India made A-Star brand car in Europe.
The new move from Maruti Suzuki has come at the time when government at policy level is promoting India as the manufacturing base for small cars. And, it has offered sops like lower excise duty to small car manufacturers. Taking initiative in this regard South Korea's Hyundai has made India the main hub for its small car models like the i10 and Santro.
