Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle got the surprise of her life when she landed at the Tokyo international airport as two of her admirers begged her to marry them.

The pleas, however, fell on deaf ears as Boyle smiled and waved while security teams ushered her through Narita International Airport on her first-ever visit to Japan, reports a British magazine.

Akiyama Hanako, 56, who had waited seven hours to see Boyle, compared her arrival to the pandemonium caused by the Beatles visit in 1966.

"There is so much affection for Susan. She is an idol to us. Everyone wants to meet her. I was near the front but got pushed aside when she appeared. One gentleman kept on saying Susan, 'kekkon shite kudasai!' He was asking her to marry him over and over again. We have not seen scenes like this since the Beatles," said Hanako.

Moments later another fan was seen bending down on his knees while holding a rose and proclaiming his undying love for the singer. He also asked for her hand in marriage.

Boyle appeared on the country's biggest New Years Eve show 'Kohaku Uta Gassen' and sang a traditional Japanese song. She also sang her trademark "I dreamed a dream", the title track to her No.1 debut album.

She is the first international singer in years to be invited by the NHK channel to perform on the show, which is watched by up to 40 million people.

News of her arrival dominated morning television and prompted crowds to stake out her hotel in the bustling Tokyo district of Shinjuku.

"She loves travel and the fame that 'Britain's Got Talent' has awarded her. Susan really is living out her dream," said a source close to the singer.
