Sunil Bharti Mittal, who is the Chairman and Group CEO of Bharti Enterprises, has been appointed to the board of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The ITU that has a headquarter in Geneva is a prominent United Nations body for Information and Communications Technology (ICT). Within the ITU, governments and the private sector manage global information and communications technology networks and services.
The function of the ITC is basically to govern the three core sectors of radio communication, standardization and development. Sunil Bharti Mittal is going to be a part of the ITU board for the next two years. Following his induction into ITU, Mittal remarked how India has emerged as a major player in the global telecom arena. He further said he felt positive that his India's experience of catering reasonable telecom services to millions of customers will benefit the ITU.
