A strong earthquake has rattled eastern Indonesia. The quake has been measured at 6.6 on the Richter scale. An official report issued from the Jakarta Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reveals that the quake came at 5.41 in the morning, and its epicenter was about 51 km northeast of Sumbawa Island. However, there has not been any injury, confirms reports from the state.

According to plate tectonics Indonesia is located in the Pacific Ocean's Ring of Fire which is the meeting place of continental plates, and that leads to high volcanic and seismic activities in the region. This time the quake was10 km beneath the seabed, but there were no immediate reports of tsunami or structural damage.

Indonesia had gone a bad phase during tsunami in December 2004 when a 9.1-magnitude quake had led to devastating sea waves which killed nearly 177,000 people in Indonesia's Aceh province. However, in recent past there have many earthquakes but none of them have shown dangerous magnitudes or implications of tsunami or tsunami like situation.
