The 'Culture in Balance' Award for the year 2009 was given away to 'Art of Living' founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar by the World Culture Forum in Germany. He was presented with the honour for promoting Hindu culture.

"Sri Sri Ravi Shankar was conferred with the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to all facets of culture, and for his commitment to global cultural balance," says an Art of Living foundation statement.

He has been awarded for promoting inter-cultural dialogue, peace and reconciliation in conflict zones as well as for promoting the need for ethical business.

The award was presented to Ravi Shankar by Dresden Mayor Helma Orosz at the Volkswagen's landmark transparent factory.

"I share this award with all those people who stand for a violence-free and stress-free society. This award is not for a person or personality, but for a principle that stands for the ideal of a 'one world family' and cultural plurality," said Ravi Shankar, after receiving the award.
