The International Cricket Council (ICC) is expected to pick Sir Lanka as the possible venue for hosting the troubled Champions Trophy. Earlier, ICC has withdrawn the tournament from Pakistan citing security concerns. After holding the two-day ICC board meeting at Perth, ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat stated that oraganising the event in Sri Lanka during September-October might face the beatings of the weather as monsoon season in the island nation starts during that time.
Lorgat however, informed that the dates for the Champions Trophy (24 September-5 October) will not be altered as the international schedule is heavily packed up. During the 2002 Champions Trophy in Sri Lanka the final took place in Colombo at the end of September and was twice washed out by rain. ICC has indicated that this year's Champions Trophy might take place in one city.
The fate of the tournament kept on fluctuating since 2008. Champions Trophy was supposed to be held in September last year but ICC had to postpone it by a year as several nations were reluctant to play in Pakistan. After that, a couple of days ago the tournament was entirely withdrawn from Pakistan.
