Four wickets were taken by Ajantha Mendis, whereas Kumar Sangakkara scored a neat century as Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan by 64 runs in the Asia Cup tournament at the Karachi National Stadium on Sunday, June 29. Kumar Sangakkara made 112 from 110 balls to help Sri Lanka reach a total of 302-7  in 50 overs. In reply Pakistan were restricted to 238-9 in 50 overs. Misbah-ul-Haq made a career-best 76 off 70 balls.

The middle-order batsmen of Pakistan found it tough to tackle the varying spinning deliveries of 23-year old Ajantha Mendis and slumped to 175-6 in 40 overs. Though Misbah-ul-Haq did manage to lessen the victory margin for the Pakistani team through his three fours and four sixes, he was ultimately bowled out by Mendis (4-47). The defeat at the hands of the Sri Lankans has left the Pakistanis still without any point as it gears up to play against India on Wednesday and Bangladesh and Friday in the last two games.   +
