Sri Lanka on Monday, June 30, 2008 secured a place in the finals of the Asia Cup as they easily defeated Bangladesh by 158 runs. Brilliant centuries from Sanath Jayasuriya and Kumar Sangakkara led the Sri Lankans to a smashing victory over Bangladesh. The Sri Lankan openers slammed impressive tons with Jayasuriya scoring 130 runs from 88 balls and Sangakkara scoring 121 runs. The Sri Lankans hence dominated the games from the start.
The brilliant start made the Lankans pile up a mammoth score of 332-8 with ease. Later Muttiah Muralitharan took 5-31 to easily make a place for them in the Asia Cup final. The Bangladeshis were all bundled up at 174 in 38.3 overs. Now to decide who will play against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup Finals will be a crucial match between India and Pakistan on Wednesday, July 2, 2008. If India wins it will be a repeat of the 2004 final.
