India's tail-enders Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma added 46 invaluable runs for the tenth wicket to extend the first innings lead by 60 runs. With just a wicket to wipe out, the South African bowlers came on the field with the aim of wrapping the proceedings in a few overs but that was not to be and the stout defiance shown by Sreesanth and Ishant Sharma frustrated them as the two managed to stay at the pitch for almost 12 overs.
The day began with pace attack of Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini but both the bowlers looked pedestrian, bowling either down the leg side or full on the stumps. Sreesanth looked firm and determined like an accomplished batsman and stood well outside the crease to foil the attempts of S African bowlers.
As they say, luck favors the brave; both Sreesanth and Ishant had their share of good fortune. Sreesanth was lucky when an edge of Ntini bowling went in between Neil McKenzie and Jacques Kallis as both of them kept standing at their positions at first and second slips. With that boundary India total reached to 300. Ishant Sharma, on the other hand, too managed to survive, hitting a few boundaries now and then.
