Santi Freixa and Xavi Llenart of Spain contributed to their victory over India in the first hockey Test match at Terrassa.
The world No.3 Spain took a lead by 5-0 at the half of the game on Friday night.
Freixa scored for Spain in the 3rd and 15th minute .Xavi Ribas added one more goal in the 14th minute for Spain. This was followed by Albert Sala, David Alegre, Xavi Llenart and Victor Sojo contributing to Spain’s total to 8 goals. For India Hari Prasad and Rajpal Singh scored in the 51st and 60th minute.
Spain never allowed India to settle down and unleashed attacks at lightning speed, spearheaded by Freixa, supported by wingers Edward Tabau and Xavi Llenart.
India, on the other hand, seemed to be rusty and lacked the spark as seen against England and Belgium in the first half of their European tour.
The Spaniards attacked India with much ease.
Indians were in trouble at midway as goalkeeper Sreejesh was shown the yellow card for charging on Freixa. This forced Vikram Pillay to take his place for rest of the match.
Freixa had to be hospitalised for a serious knee injury which doctors said would put him out of the Euro Nations Cup at Amstelveen, Holland, later this month.
Spain earned seven penalty corners while India got none. India's forwards were totally off colour and there were mispasses in large numbers between Bharat Chhikara, Prabhjot Singh, S.V. Sunil and Birendra Lakra.
