Spain defeated Italy in Euro 2008 quarterfinals played at Vienna. The game was destined to be decided in penalty corner as both the teams were defensive since start of the match. Penalty shoot round was thrilling and it was Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas who saved penalties from Daniele De Rossi and Antonio Di Natale of Italy and led his team to victory.

Earlier, the match ended into 0-0 even after extra time. Spain tried to break the stalemate by making a double substitution on the hour, sending on Fabregas and Santi Cazorla for Xavi and Andres Iniesta but nothing seemed to work in favour of either team. Mauro Camoranesi of Italy was near to goal post but his shot missed the goal post.

Now after this victory Spanish team has reached to semifinals of the tournament where it will meet Russia. This victory will surely bring good time for Spanish team. Interestingly, Spanish team reached quarterfinals of 1986, and 2002 world cups and Euro 1996 but could not go beyond it. This time Spanish team is quite confident of its victory, at least from its performance in this tournament is concerned.
