Daniel Guiza made a goal just two minutes before time to provide Spain a 2-1 win against the rival team Greece at Salzburg on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. This assured that the team of the Spanish coach Luis Aragones ended at the summit of the Group D with 100 per cent record, whereas the defending champions Greece had to return home without even a point.

Striker Angelo Charisteas headed home a free kick on the 42nd minutes made by Giorgos Karagounis to secure Greece the very first goal of the tournament. But after the 61st minute, Ruben de la Red made it up for Spain beating Greek goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis a powerful shot from a close range. It seemed as if the game would end in a draw had it not been for Guiza's late header, which propelled Spain to win.
