In order to control the second eruption of the deadly bird flu or avian influenza within a week’s time, South Korea has culled all domestic fowl in its capital Seoul. Since the beginning of April, South Korea declared 31 cases of the fatal H5N1 strain in its poultry and consequently killed over seven million chickens and ducks. But even this has not kept the deadly virus from scattering out throughout the country at its fastest pace ever since the first local outbreak was reported in 2003.
As per reports derived from the farm ministry, Seoul has already completed butchering 15,000 chickens and ducks after an outbreak of the avian influenza at a duck farm in the city's Songpa district was established on Monday 12 May. In an effort to contain the bird flu virus, the country has restricted the transportation of livestock to its markets and simultaneously stepped up quarantine work.
