Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Sunday that Railway Ministry will take the necessary initiatives for upgrading the South Eastern Railway (SER) Hospital to the status of a medical college, with all the facilities.
"The SER Hospital will be developed with all modern facilities and it will soon be converted into a medical college. The project would be implemented through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model," Banerjee said. She was inaugurating a computerised reservation centre (CRC) of the railways in the Metiaburz area, which is located in the southern part of Kolkata.
She told that the proposal for the modernisation of the Garden Reach State General Hospital had been submitted to South 24-Parganas district magistrate by the railways ministry, but there has not been any response from that side till date.
"We'd given the proposal to the office of the district magistrate, but we got no response from their side. We're now looking for an alternative land to set up a hospital at Garden Reach area through the PPP model. We also have plans to set up a school there," Banerjee said.
The minister Sunday inaugurated the 631st CRC in eastern India under the Kolkata Passenger Reservation System (PRS).
"We are soon going to carry out a survey in the Taratala and Metiaburz area to enhance the connectivity of this southern pocket. We also have plans to set up a flyover at Garden Reach in the next two-three years," Banerjee said.
