South Africa was not in a hurry to chase the target. The batsmen took time to settle down. They could do that as the total was below par. The situation was ideal for Kallis to pace his innings. After Smith got out for 11 runs, Kallis and Gibbs played responsibly and added 74 runs for the second wicket. Kallis guided the team through and remained unbeaten on 57. The team reached the target with 7 wickets in hand. Kallis was adjudged the man of the match for his all-round performance.
