A research in microbiology has paved a path to make an anti-bio weapon vaccine. The research paper carried out in the Journal of Medical Microbiology, says that researchers have made a rapid progress in understanding how the pathogen Francisella tularensis causes disease. It would also be helpful fighting disease like Anthrax.
Francisella Tularensis according to the researchers have been used by nations as biological weapon in recent past, and, some of them have shown anti-biotic characteristic too. One researcher commenting on the development said although they have reached to point of conclusion, still, understanding the pathogenesis of F. tularensis is at a bit distance.
Prof. Oyston from Dstl, Porton Down said that recently genes needed by F. tularensis for growth and survival have been identified and these could be used in the production of a vaccine. On the other hand researchers have admitted that they are still unsure about the function of most F. tularensis genes. Though a distant dream, the research has given hope to fight against bio-weapon terror.
