Sony has launched a computer game called EyePet which enables the players to view themselves on screen with their virtual creatures in their living room.
The EyePet computer game can be instructed from a PlayStation 3 console by moving around in front of the TV screens.
A Sony spokesperson said, "By completing daily tasks, you can teach your EyePet brand new games to play."
"The more he learns the more exciting new tasks you'll get to teach him. EyePet is fully aware of people in the room and will play with you and your family in your home,” he said
"Poke him and he jumps, stroke him and he'll roll over in contentment, tickle him and he'll laugh," he added.
Interestingly, the virtual animals can sense the objects that you place on the screen and can react to the voices and gestures of the player.
Sony EyePet promises to be a popular cyber game like Tamagotchi, which is controlled by hand-held mini consoles.
