Sony Ericsson has launched the new Xperia X1, a touch screen Smartphone, targeting the premium customers who want both functionality and quality. The handset has 3-inch display screen, Qwerty keyboard, metal-body finish and an option to upgrade to 32 GB of memory space from the original available 4 GB. This is the first Sony Ericsson mobile that comes with the windows mobile OS. Loaded with the windows mobile 6.1 operating system, Xperia X1 can be personalized through nine panel user interface to suit to the users’ mood and lifestyle.

The Xperia X1 mobile phone also has Java virtual machine and supports JavaME that is claimed to have richer set of features than typically available. Its touchscreen is a 65,536-color TFT WVGA display. It has a 3.2 megapixel digital camera which records video at thirty frames per second in VGA (640x480) quality. There is also a secondary front facing camera for videoconferencing that is of QCIF format.

The Xperia mobile handset would be available in the Indian market for a price of Rs 44,500. Sony Ericsson India President Anil Sethi told media that the high-end phone has launched to target the premium multi-media devices market which is doubling every year.
