The oldest Indian-owned newspaper group of UK, Asian Media and Marketing Group (AMG) has bought British Asian tabloid Eastern Eye. The detail of the deal was not revealed by both the organisations. Solanki's newspaper group publishes Garavi Gujarat newspaper, GG2 Life Magazine, Asian Trader and several other titles. Speaking on the occasion, AMG managing editor Kalpesh Solanki said that Eastern Eye is a very iconic brand and his group is proud to acquire it.

Talking further, he said that AMG will efficiently invest in Eastern Eye and its associated assets. According to him, the acquisition of the tabloid will enhance and consolidate AMG's reach into the Asian community. The AMG owned by Solankis was established by veteran Gujarati journalist Ramniklal Solanki in 1968.

Eastern Eye editor Hamant Verma said that the Solanki group has achieved great success over the years which enabled it to own Eastern Eye in the bad economic times. The tabloid has experienced a sharp fall in the sales and advertising revenues which forced its owners to sell it to AMG. Eastern Eye was founded in 1989 to cater to the readers of Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi communities residing in Britain.
