Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have created an automobile robot which can do multiple jobs with an ease. The snack serving robots, Snackbots are very much efficient in assisting in robotics and other scientific projects to the researchers. They have been employed to offer a tasty retreat to the office workers, researchers and students.

A scientist related to the project said, "Snackbot is a mobile robot, about the size of a very small human that rolls around on wheels, and will be delivering snacks to students, faculty, and office workers at Carnegie Mellon University."

"Snackbot is meant as an ongoing platform for research," the scientists said.

"The Snackbot will support research into robust autonomous operation in office environments. Our efforts range from multi-sensor fusion algorithms for perception, reasoning about dynamic spaces, communicating with people through verbal and non-verbal mechanisms, and planning with incomplete information,” the researchers added.

They also said, "The research will allow the robot to navigate through congested areas in a socially acceptable fashion, detect individual people moving near the robot, recognize when someone that the robot knows approaches it, and autonomously learn to recognize new objects."

The scientists clarified that unlike the Robotic Busboy, they needed an assistant which could relieve the pressure from the hardworking engineers. Robotic Busboy had been developed by the Intel Research Centre to clean up plates and glasses.
