The license for the production of world’s first ever swine flu vaccine has been granted to a Sinovac, a domestic pharmaceutical company of China.

The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) has granted the license for Sinovac to produce the vaccine which has been titled as Panflu.1. This approval was granted on Thursday, after it passed SFDA's experts evaluation on Aug 31.

Panflu.1 can be administered safely to all people who fall into the age group of 3 to 60.  The flu vaccine should be administered as a single shot of 15 microgram dose.

According to an official from Sinovac, the company has the potential for manufacturing about 5 million doses of Panflu.1 vaccine before Oct 1, 2009. The official has also disclosed that the annual capacity of the company will be around 20-30 million doses.

One more swine flu vaccine produced by Chinese pharmaceutical company Hualan Biological Engineering Inc., is also hopeful of getting the license this week.
