Illustrious Indian businessman Ratan Tata, who is the chairman of the Tata Group, on Friday, August 29, 2008, was conferred with the honorary citizenship of Singapore. This was done in recognition of his steadfast business relationship with the island nation and his contribution to the growth of high-tech sectors in Singapore.

 

Ratan Tata is the first Indian to have been presented with the honorary citizenship of Singapore. The award was given to Tata by Singapore President SR Nathan at a special function organized at the presidential palace, Istana. Singaporean government ministers, VIPs as well as Tata Sons executives were present at this event.
