Simon Greul advanced into the second round of the Stockholm Open tennis on Monday. He defeated sixth seed Benjamin Becker by 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.Bad luck continued for Becker as he earned his seventh consecutive first-round loss this season.
The all-German clash was the first on court at Kungligahallen .Top seed Swede Robin Soderling is also one of the contestants at the event who is trying to book one of three spots remaining in November's ATP year-end finals in London.
The number 59 Greul, who won a match each in Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo this month, will play against Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in his second round encounter. Lopez defeated fellow Spaniard Alberto Martin by 6-3, 6-2 with five breaks of serve.
Fourth-seeded Argentine Juan Monaco earned 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 victory over Czech Jan Hernych in a tough match.
German second seed Tommy Haas will open his challenge against Frenchman Florent Serra .Soderling stands provisional ninth in the chase to the year-end final, trailing Spain's Fernando Verdasco in the points tally.
