A vessel that had at least 10 Indians onboard has been hijacked off the Somalian coast on Saturday 17 May. This information was provided by the Directorate General of Shipping on Monday 19 May, who added that effort is being made to get hold of more information about the whereabouts of the said vessel. The DG official further said that the ship owners were supposed to inform about this incident, but they have not.
As per more reports on the vessel slowly trickling in, it is named MV Victoria. The ship sailed from Mumbai earlier this month and was loaded with cargo. It is being reported that it went missing around 55 nautical miles off the Somalian coast. The vessel is believed to have been carrying sugar between Mumbai and Mogadishu.
