A Mumbai court on Thursday (June 18) sent rape accused Bollywood actor, Shiney Ahuja, to judicial custody till July 2. The court’s decision of not extending the police custody has come like a relief for the actor who has been convicted of raping his house maid. Shiney was detained on Sunday (June 14) after his teenaged maid complained to police that he had raped her. The police custody has ended today.
During the proceedings on rape case, the police lawyer urged the court to extend the police custody of Shiney Ahuja saying that it is necessary to carry out further investigations and to prevent the accused from tampering with evidence or influencing witnesses. On the other hand, Shiney's lawyer Shrikant Shivade strongly objected the proposal of extending the police custody by saying that there is no need of further extension as the investigations are almost completed.
The magistrate of the Andheri court accepted the defendant's contention and sent Shiney Ahuja to judicial custody. After the court’s processing, Shrikant Shivade stated that appeal will be made against the court order, seeking bail for the accused actor. Shivade informed that Shiney Ahuja has not made any confession of rape. The court’s verdict has also brought relief for Shiney’s wife Anupam, who has been constantly defending her husband.
According to Anupam, Shiney Ahuja has not committed the rape and everything has been farmed. Shiney Ahuja will be sent to high-security Arthur Road Jail in south Mumbai which also houses Pakistani terrorist Mohammed Ajmal Amir alias Kasab. Shiney Ahuja was arrested from his Versova home after his maid lodged the rape complaint. The teenaged maid has been working in Shiney’s house for about a year.
