Satyajit Ray’s film Shatranj Ke Khiladi will have a special screening on the sidelines of the world famous chess tournament in Spain.

Shatranj Ke Khiladi, a masterpiece of Indian cinema, made by Satyajit Ray and based on a novel written by famous writer Munshi Prem Chand will be screened on the sidelines of the Ciudad de Leon Chess tournament in Spain, in a special festival featuring films based on chess. Shatranj Ke Khiladi will be one of the six films that will be screened at the special festival.
 

The Indian film has veteran actors Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan, Shabana Azmi, Saeed Jaffery and Sir Richard Attenborough as the star cast of the film. Besides the film by Satyajit Ray five others films which will be screened at the festival are ‘La Fiebre del ajedrez’ by Russian filmmaker Vsevolod Pudovkin, ‘La partida de Ajedrez’, ‘Flesh’, ‘Los caballeros del Sur del Bronx’ and ‘La nieve blanca de Rusia’. World Champion Viswanathan Anand too will be playing at the tournament. Spain has proved really lucky for Anand, with him winning the Leon title consecutively for the last three times from 2005 to 2007.
