After receiving a shut down notice from the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, Shasun Chemicals and Drugs, a drug manufacturer, has locked its factory which is located in Cuddalore.
 
The plant, which is into the manufacturing of the anti-ulcerant drugs like Ranitidine, Nizatidine and Gabapentin, had received the notice asking the plant not to indulge in manufacturing.
 
"We are approaching the court," S. Vimal Kumar, whole-time director of the Rs.457.8-crore firm, told.
 
A notice was issued by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, to stop the complete manufacturing process and shut down the factory, which is located at the the Sipcot Industrial complex in Cuddalore, around 200 km from Chennai.
 
The notice has been issued after the pollution board received numerous complaints, which accused the emission of foul smell into the air.
 
"We are surprised at the turn of events. The company has not been given a chance to give its views before the pollution control board before serving the closure notice," a company official told, but the person has not disclosed any details about him.
