Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor will be holding discussions with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on the attacks faced by Indian students in Australia.
"Our government has been anxious not to dramatise this problem. We have 90,000 Indian students in Australia, out of which only 25 have suffered attacks," said Shashi Tharoor at the India Economic Summit.
He mentioned that Australia would be adopting various measures for the welfare of Indian student including the increasing of police patrol. "We have assurances from Australia about the number of steps they are taking to keep our students safe," said Tharoor.
"I am sure that these subjects will be further discussed when Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is here," he added.
Kevin Rudd is slated to visit India on Wednesday. He will call on Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday. They will be discussing Australia’s sale of uranium to India.
