While hinting at joining politics, the former United Nations diplomat and writer Shashi Tharoor on Friday (13th February) said that if provided an opportunity he would like to join Congress Party. Tharoor told reporters in Mumbai that, he has been thinking of joining politics and had some serious conversations about it. He said that, as he had left the UN, now he has an opportunity to enter into politics where his knowledge and experiences could be used.
He also clarified that he is not in a hurry to join politics. He further added that if any opportunity is offered to him, certainly he will think over it very seriously. When asked about the reason of joining politics, he said that in democracy politics is the means of bringing about change for the country and having some impact on the future direction.
When asked which party he would like to join, he said that the party has to be national. He further clarified that economically he had nothing in common with the ideology of the Left and Communist parties. Further commenting on BJP he said that he had nothing common with communalism that has been unfortunately encouraged by people associated with the BJP. Thus to him national party basically means Congress Party, he said.
