The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has nominated the president of Janata Dal-United (JD-U), Sharad Yadav as acting NDA convenor. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (JP) leader, LK Advani made the announcement of Yadav's nomination on December 14. The decision was taken because the current NDA convenor, George Fernandes of the JD-U has been ailing for quite some time. Commenting on the new move, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi stated that Sharad Yadav has been nominated as the convenor after consultations with NDA constituents.
After nominating the new convenor, LK Advani said that Yadav has a long political experience of 35 years which will help NDA. The 61-year-old senior leader, Sharad Yadav became an MP for the first time in 1974 from the Jabalpur constituency. The Janata Dal (United) and other parties had merged with NDA to come up as a strong opposition party in the country. NDA nominated Sharad Yadav as convenor in order to strengthen its ties with JD-U before the Lok Sabha polls in the wake of mixed results in the recent assembly elections.
