Serena Williams has set the record for single-season prize money in women's tennis. The eleven times grand slam winner has earned USD 6,545,586 in 2009.
 
Williams broke the Justine Henin’s record of $5.5 million, which she had earned in 2007.
 
The American who triumphed over her elder sister Venus Williams in the season-ending tour championships on Sunday also ended the year with the number one position. She has also claimed the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year.
 
 The 28-year-old Williams now has career earnings of nearly USD 30 million.
