American tennis champion Serena Williams trounced China’s Zheng Jie playing on a wildcard by 6-2, 7-6 at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships on Thursday, July 3. The victory has propelled Serena into the Wimbledon final for the fourth time, whereas it will be for the third time that she is pitted against her own sister, top seed Venus Williams.

Serena Williams won the first set in just 28 minutes, which followed a first break of serve in the opening game and a 37-minute rain delay with the score 5-2. The 24 year-old Chinese player made a remarkable recovery in the second set with a score of 5-5 after an exchange of breaks in mid-set and Zheng heading 40-30 on her serve. Thereafter the game had to halt for a second time for 82 minutes due to rainfall. After Williams saved a break point in the 12th game, the set went into a tiebreak. Serena Williams scored a match point with an ace and then took it when Zheng double faulted.
