Serena defeated Dinara Safina by 6-3, 6-2, and Jelena Jankovic defeated Elena Dementieva by 6-4, 6-4 in their respective semi final matches to reach into final of US Open. Williams and Dinara Safina match lasted for one hour, 29 minutes, but latter could not stop earlier to reach into the final of her first title since winning the Australian Open in 2007.

 

Jelena Jankovic, on the other hand defeated Olympic champion Elena Dementieva by 6-4, 6-4 to reach first time into the final of a Grand Slam title. Jankovic said that she wants to win a Grand Slam, and for that reason only she is here. She said that she is physically fit at the moment. Further she said that she is feeling stronger mentally and she believes in herself.

 

Jankovic said that she thinks that the right time has come for her to make step forward to break that barrier and go a long way. Interestingly, whereas Serena will be looking for a ninth Grand Slam trophy, Jankovic is after her first. Factually, Serena and Jankovic have met six times earlier, and both have won three matches each. Last meeting between both was at the Miami final.
