Researchers from the Australian National University (ANU) have discovered a way to send data in a quicker and more secure manner. The procedure uses a novel and simpler way of manipulating light.
It is based on the present optical technology. But the technology is used in such a way that fewer components and light beams are required, according to the research leader at ANU, Jiri Janousek.
Janousek said this discovery about mode manipulation in light meant that only one light source and one receiver is required to generate optical entanglement, meaning that this approach could be scaled up to convey many more information channels.
Janousek further added that there are only 10 labs in the world that could do this kind of research and the researchers at ANU are the first to find an answer to this problem.
The findings were published in the journal Nature Photonics.
