German Sebastian Vettel raced away to victory at the British Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday as Red Bull finished first and second. His teammate Mark Webber of Australia came second, while Brazilian Rubens Barrichello finished third.
Britain’s Jenson Button finished sixth, thus trimming the lead over Barrichello to 23 points. Button had won six races out of seven before British GP. Now, Button has 64 points to Barrichello’s 41. Vettel stands on 39 points. Nine races are remaining in the season.
It was quite a dominant win for Vettel after starting from pole position. Brawn GP is leading the constructors’ championship with 105 points. Red Bull is on 74.5 points. The win at Silverstone was Vettel’s second this season and third of F1 career. He had led Red Bull to a one-two win at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Vettel said that the win was like a dream coming true. Meanwhile Brazilian Felipe Massa of Ferrari finished fourth and his teammate Kimi Raikkonen finished eighth. This was the final race at Silverstone since it began in 1950. The venue is scheduled to be taken off the calendar from next year. Hence,
Sunday’s race is called a ‘farewell race’. Donington Park is scheduled to host the British Grand Prix next year.
