The former captain of Indian cricket team Saurav Ganguly has announced on October 7, 2008 to quit international cricket after the forth-coming test series against Australia. Talking to reporters in Bangalore, the Prince of Calcutta said that he has informed his teammates that Australia series will be his last series. Thanking the fans for so much of support, Ganguly hopes to finish his career on a winning note.

Speaking about the up-coming series, he said that none of the teams can start as favorites. He said that like every series, the India-Australia test series also has pressure and the team needs to perform well every time. When Ganguly announced his retirement, he seemed very emotional and said that every body has to earn his place in national squad, it does not come easily.

Saurav has been of the greatest test captains India has ever produced. As captain of India, he has the record of winning 21 of 49 test matches. It is under his captaincy that India reached the finals of 2003 World Cup. Besides being a successful captain, Dada is a prolific left-handed batsman with over 10,000 ODI runs. He faced many challenges in his cricket career since his early debut, but came victorious on every occasion.
