The Satyajit Ray Film Institute at Kolkata has been shut down for an indefinite period owing to the mounting trade unionism in the campus. The Satyajit Ray Film Institute is the only second institute of its kind in India offering a post-graduate degree to students in cinema. The Institute located in the state of West Bengal is the premier centre, educating students in film making, screen play, sound recording & editing, direction & writing and motion picture photography. The institute authorities allege that it has become virtually impossible to continue working in the campus due to militant trade unionism by CITU or Centre of Indian Trade Unions.
