The satellites JCSAT-12 and OPTUS D3 for Japan and Australia were successfully put into the orbit by the Ariane-5 rocket. This was informed by the space officials. The launch took place from French Guiana on Friday.
The rocket left for the space from the European Space Agency's (ESA) launch centre in Kourou, French Guiana on the northeast coast of South America.
The satellite JCSAT-12 will provide telecommunication services to Japan's Sky Perfect JSAT Corp, which will include Japan, the Asia-Pacific region and Hawaii. This satellite has been built by the Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems.
The OPTUS D3 satellite will be used for providing television, Internet, telephony and data transmission services and will cover the countries Australia and New Zealand. The OPTUS D3 satellite has been built by Orbital Sciences Corp in Virginia.
The chief executive of Australia's Optus company Paul Sheridan while elaborating on the project to the reporters after the launch said, "Australia is a vast continent where the delivery by satellites makes sense."
"D3 reflects our continuing commitment and investment to delivering those services by satellite," he said.
