French President Nicolas Sarkozy has sent a biography of French war hero, Charles De Gaulle to his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao. The move of the French President seems to be directed at making peace with China over China’s position in Tibet and the Beijing Olympics. Former Prime Minister Jean Pierre Raffarin, who will head for China on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 as the President’s envoy revealed that Sarkozy has given him the biography along with a letter addressed to Hu Jintao.
The European nation is sending three top envoys to China in a significant diplomatic bid to ease tensions between France and China after a host of demonstrations rocked the French nation over the Tibet issue. Raffarin remarked that there is no confrontation with China, in order to ease the tension and prepare the ground before his visit to the Republic of China. It was Charles De Gaulle, the French war hero who for the first time decided to recognize the Communist Republic of China, way back in 1964.
